If you have keyless go then the key would have to remain in the car for the car to remote start. Something that I would not recommend. Otherwise, it's not possible to add remote start. Only remote heating/venting. http://web.mac.com/motorwerks/iWeb/Site/STH%20.html

Having the key in the car is not a problem so long as you pull the battery from the key fob and then hide the key. This way when you remote start you first energize the key fob which in turn will allow to remote start the car. And when the key fob is not energized, the key-less-go does not sense the key fob and will not function.
