Key availability

My dealer says that the demand for keys is so great that it will take 2 or 3 weeks to get a keyless go key for my SL550. What experience is anyone else having?

Everyone is trying to get the key so I would have been surprised if there is a delay. Are you just getting one as a spare? Or are you going for the new look? What year is your car by the way?

The car is a new SL550. My dealer ordered the key because the car came with only one, and my wife has misplaced that one!

Can you get the old style credit card as the keyless go instead of the key? Didn't Mercedes go back to that???

Huh? Really Mercedes went back to that style? I highly doubt that but I could be wrong. And from my understanding if you have the key type keyless go than you will have to stay with that type...reverse for if you have the card type you will have to stay with the card type because of the different types of units in the cars. I have the card type and wanted to go with the keyless go key but apparently no ones gotten that to work so I guess Ill stay with the card type.

Dealer called me last night to say that the extra key that I ordered for my 07 SL550 came in. That took 8 days total. I will call today to see if it needs to be programed or not. I am having the center armrest cover replace also because of a sticking latch on the upper cover. Same problem I had with my 06 SL500.

Arm rest cover is warranty. No charge.
Key is listed on a "We Owe" sheet. They could not find the second key when I purchased the car. Should be no charge. Scheduled the work for next Friday so I could get a loaner while the work was be done. The arm rest is supposed to take .7 hours but it took about three hours when they replaced the one on my 06 SL500. I traded the SL500 for the SL550.

I somehow managed to get 3 regular keys, two keyless-go cards,
and one flat "emergency" key when I took delivery of my SL. I guess
the salesman took some steps to take care of me. (I had to come
back for one key and two go-cards after they came in).

Smile

I took my 2007 SL550 in to the dealer last Friday (26 Jan) to get my new key programmed in. Also had the warranty work of replacing my center console cover done. They gave me a loaner of an 07 C350 with only 1800 miles on it. I liked the C350. It had a lot more power than our 01 E320 did, but it certainly didn't drive as smoothly.
Any way I got a call from the service dept saying that they completed the work on the center console but they ordered the wrong key for my car. They ordered another key and said it would be in Monday. I was told I could keep the loaner over the weekend so I wouldn't have to come back till they did what they needed on the new key. I brought the loander back because I didn't want my SL sitting at the dealer all weekend.
So, I took the car back to the dealer today (Wednesday) and had the new key "learn" the code. It only took a little over a half hour. While I was waiting, they gave me the key that was the wrong one from last week. It is all black and performs all the same functions that I had on my 01 SLK320, 01 E320 and 06 SL500 keys. It does not perform the keyless go functions. But at least I have a new spare key.

Keyless-go card

How does that card work? Does that mean you dont need the key, does it have buttons on it? How much does it cost?

The keycard is so cool. I have it in my car, and I just keep it in my wallet, and push the button in the car. Basically the car will only turn on if the keyless go card is in the car. To unlock the car, you have to be in like a 3 foot radius, and you just touch the door handle and it unlocks. To lock the car you just push on the buttom on the door handle and it locks. Its pretty cool, and its pretty sweet when you flash open your wallet and pay for something, and everyone sees the "Mercedes Benz Credit Card" LOL. My friends love it, and I LOVE IT~! I also have a regular key for valet.
