Warning chime
Every time I open the driver's door on my SL550 the infernal warning chime starts up, the display showing "don't forget your key". This happens regardless of whether the key is anywhere near the car. (The car has keyless ignition.) I can't believe this is normal. Is it?

There must be someone who could tell us what/which wires could have a switch installed to temporarily disable the alarm. We would appreciate it very much

One of my only *****es about my 05 SL.
That Damn Chime.
I got the friggin key in my pocket you stupid keyless.
Keyless is smart enough not to lock the car with the key in the car.
But stupid enough to chime and say. "Dont forget key".
It stops after 30 Seconds. And starts again if you reopen or close
any of the doors. It is rather annoying.
I remember some thread that mentioned the "Dealer" could diasble it.
But for "safety" reasons they say no.
Someday someone will provide a cheat.
Other than sticking the "key in" to fix the keyless chime.

I had read elsewhere on this forum that certain models(CLS) can deactivate the chime by simply pushing the up/down arrow on the left side of the steering wheel.
Unfortunately, this doesn't work on our 07 but perhaps the earlier models may?

I researched this on my 2006 SL600. Short answer: the dealer won't help you. The solution: remove the instrument cluster, separate the front cover and then pop the instrument tray out of the back cover. Carefully turn it over on a towel and look for the round speaker in a little plastic cage. Pop the cage open and cut the wires going to the speaker. Remove the speaker and pop everything back together in reverse order. No more chime!
