wind noise

hey guys, i was just wondering. i get some slight wind noise from my left side(driver's side) window. i cant tell where its exactly coming from, but it think its from where the front and rear side window meet. i dont see any wear on the seals. so i wanted to know if anybody experiences this, is it somewhat normal, or should i just get the seals changed?

thanx

i had a similar problem after the dealer broke my window and replaced it. i ended up having to take it back for them to readjust and it's fine now

There are several adjustments that are possible that change the way the top of the window sits in the window gasket.

I am sure a slight adjustment from someone that knows what they are doing will fix the problem.

I would suggest the following: With the help of a friend, while you are sitting in the drivers seat, have him use packing tape in about 6 separate pieces, seal the drivers window edges around the frame. Drive the car and then stop and have him remove one piece at a time until the noise reappears. Then you'll know exactly where the noise is from and eliminate any quess work in the adjustment.

thanks for your responses. im gonna try what glenn suggested and then get the dealer to adjust it (still under warranty).
after doing a search i realized that having the seals or windows adjusted like you guys recommended is better than changing the seals outright, i could be opening a can of worms!

I had a similar problem on my 2003 SL500 which the dealer fixed.

There is a much easier way to determine where the leak is. Take a piece of thin paper that is about 2 inches wide and about 8-10 inches long.

Place the paper between the window and the seal and close the window. Try to pull the paper. If the paper moves easily the fit is not tight enough. Where the paper does not move when pulled the seal fits properly.

Simple...but it works.
