Got contract in the mail yesterday for the D.C. extended, seems I have to read carefully, it is their best plan, seems to cover all things except maintance items, wipers etc. in one section it mentions that it covers all mech and electricial, and then lists exclusions, glenn has had experience with this policy, I will see if I can get the seller to join in on this thread.

my mercedes service manager at the dealer highly recommends fidelity. i got a quote that is fine and asked about the coverage of the abc and command. they responded that they are covered. regular maintenance and labor for brakes etc. are not covered. chryslerservcecontracts.com also have been reported as good, but with mercedes selling chrysler, who knows.

damn, guess it is all a crap shoot, these were bad reports from 2003. my dealer service manager still likes the fidelity people. i asked and they said abc and command were covered. my s55 has only 30k miles on it. we will see what goes.

Coverage

What ever company you decide to go with... You have to make sure it's a true EXCLUSIONARY Policy...

This is typical of a bumper to bumper, and most like the factory warranty.

In other words... Policy's that list what they cover are not worth the paper they are written on... You want a policy that specifically lists what IS NOT Covered.

Typically these are wear items like brake pads, and struts. Read ALL the fine print.

I got a 5 year extented from AutoWarrantyBrokers.com The Platinum which is the Exclusionary. Talk to Dave, he's a great guy, these are backed by Mercury Insurance a A Rated company in business for 40 years. And that's very important.

In fact here is his information:

David Murray
Warranty Specialist
1-800-372-0665 ext. 408
WebSite: www.AutoWarrantyBroker.com
DavidM@autowarrantybroker.com

Good Luck,

The verbal responses from the 3rd party warranty vendors about covering the retractable roof and COMAND system sound nice, but the only thing that matters is how the policy is actually written. As an example, coverage for an instrument cluster is not the same thing as coverage for the COMAND system.

FWIW,
Just read the documents very, very closely, then call the 800 warranty claims number yourself and ask the same coverage questions of the claims rep on the phone; listen closely to the answer and make sure the answer begins with either a "yes, it's covered," or "no, it's not covered;" get his/her name and ext number as well...you may need it later. There is just way too much deception going on with these ext warranties. Be firm, step thru the process slowly, and be very cautious.

I've personally read thru about 10 different 3rd party ext warranty policies for SLs and SLKs, and I didn't find any that covered the roof system and the COMAND system, which will likely be the most expensive components that would need repair over the long period of the ext warranty. As I recall, even the M-B ext warranty did not cover the COMAND system until they re-wrote the coverage details sometime in 2005, along with re-pricing the ext warranty for the new components they added into the coverage.

Still say MB extended warranty is better.
Pays to read the contract.

SECTION III. WHAT IS NOT COVERED

CONVERTIBLE TOPS AND THEIR MECHANISMS;
PASSENGER RESTRAINT SYSTEM; NAVIGATION SYSTEM;

Seatbelts are excluded? the hell..

Lustedp,

Yes you are correct, Tops and Mechanisms are not covered, Neither are struts which are really expensive, because they are a ware item... But my policy is good for 5 years. or 100,000mi. My car will never see 50,000 much less 100,000 so I know I have the best coverage availible for the next 5 years.

I agree that MB coverage is the best... Nothing beats Starmark, *BUT* a Mercedes policy was NOT availible for my car, and it also is VERY expenisve.

If you can afford a true MB warranty, and it's availible for your car... It's the way to go... If not the Platinum Mercury is a good alternitive.

Best,

RoydRage

Fidelity is not as good as you think they are. I spoke with them and they didnt cover jack! Plus there guidelines on getting a claim is complecated and not worth the hassle.

Im still looking as well.

I have no experience with any of these but...

I'd get the one that offers the best coverage for electrical components. The R230 has an unbelievable array of electronic modules/controllers buried in it. Would be very expensive to troubleshoot/replace any of these. (Read the fine print on all agreements!)

Also, I'd talk to the dealer where you will have the car serviced and see which one is most responsive to customer claims. Less hassle for dealer means less hassle for you.

RoydRage,

Have you ever tried to file a claim with Mercury yet ? Were they easy to deal with ?

Just had my SL in the shop for the first time under the "Warranty Direct" extended warranty. 1st repair bill claim $1200 to repair 2 tire pressure sensors, trunk latch with assist and broken sun visor. Cost to me $0. Service Adviser was amazed at how good the company was in OK'ing the claims. No paperwork, no hassels and no deductible. 3 years and 55k miles left to go. I don't see any problem in getting my money's worth.

If you are looking for an extended warranty, I highly recommend that you call

Michael @ 866 278 8823 www.chryslerservicecontracts.com

He provided my a Chrysler service contract that was a Max Care, $0 deductable, transferable, renewable and was the best price. I contacted a few local MB dealers the other day to ask how their experience was with this contract and they all said great. That gave me piece of mind.....

Just give him a call, as one option, tell him LetsJet sent you, so he knows you came from MBworld.

I don't know him or make any money off of recommending him, but he did a great job for me after Lisa at Courtesy Motors originally messed up my contract.

I'm sure it is....... The name hasn't even changed yet.

Once the name changes it will just be called a Chrysler contract I would guess, but it will still be available, from what I was told.

So this would be the new Chrysler instead of Daimler/ Chrysler? Hmm... not sure of their stability or capability to honor a contrat in 7 years? Any comments?

I think there is a better chance of this contract being honored than an employment package from them........
