2003 SL500
Programming SL500 key
I recently purchased a 2003 SL500 and one of the keys that came with the car does not work. Previous owner says it belongs to car but my local dealer says their computer research says key does not go with car and cannot be programmed to use. They want to sell me a new one for $250.00. Can the non-operative key be reprogrammed? There are several keys on E-Bay for sale for $30.00 claiming all is needed is programming. Who do I believe?

after assigned to different car they are non programmable . ebay keys are for
gullable folks - dont fall for it. the cheapest now seems to be $114. do forum(s)
search under 'chrome key'

Thanks for the e-bay "heads up". I've inquired about the "chrome key".
Where is the $114 key available? That's considerably less than the dealer price.

for current US issued cars using Smartkey. will not work for earlier switchblade
keys, Euro cars etc (reported by owners on various forums). may not be com-
patible with keyless go so do your homework and search the forums first (!).
the above was imaged when key was $50. it is now about $114 (since Feb) but
still a far cry from local dealer prices $200-300.
