SRS Light and COnsumer Electronics Offline?

Ok,

I've had the issue with starting my SL and getting the Consumer Electronics Offline warning, which after running the car and charging the battery up causes it to go away. I understand that.

But here's my question, I started my car yesterday and had the Consumer Electronics message come up, and my SRS Warning Light came on, and stayed on. I took the car for a drive and charged the battery up without a problem, but the SRS light remains.

Would the battery issues caused my electronics system to throw this message, or is this a totally unrelated issue? WOuld disconnecting the battery in the trunk for a while, and hooking it back up possibly help this, or am I screwed and need to go to the dealership?

Srs

I would get that checked out, SRS is a rather important feature to be working properly. You don't mention what year your car is, so I don't know about it being covered by warranty, either way, I would check it out.

Ah, it's a 2003, so it's not under warranty. I'm afraid to think of how expensive this is going to be. Do you think this is something that I'm better suited to go to an independent shop to do?

No

No, I would still just take it in and get it checked, you are not going to be forced into a repair. Check it, get an estimate and go from there.

I had a similar problem with my 03 SL just prior to trading it - turned out to be a voltage regulator problem. If I recall correctly, the part is relatively inexpensive (under $100), but labor was possibly $200-$300. I also seem to recall some other people experiencing this, so maybe the regulator has a life expectancy of 4 years or so?
