Intercooler Pump

This whole intercooler pump business confuses me. In response to some posts here, I had mine checked last summer because I thought it was a common defect. The dealer told me it was fine and that everything was within specifications.

Now I see Renntech is selling an upgraded intercooler kit for the V12 at a cost of $4000.

I have no problem with Renntech offering an upgraded pump, I would just like to know if there is a problem with the stock intercooler pump or if the stock pump prevents you from getting the most from the ECU upgrade.

You aren't going dump your SL600 in favor of the Vanquish S are you?

I have the Renntech intercooler pumps on my SL65. We even had 1 faulty renntech one that came like that directly from Renntech. They replaced it and all was well after that. The way it was explained to me is the upgraded pumps just allows you to sustain more of the upgraded power for longer. I really dont think its a very necessary option for regular use, and if i had to do it all over again I probably would just save the 4k.

They make it sound like a reason for loss of power, it would make sense to me if the car was cool and you put it on the Dyno, the first run should be a non issue, after that, it make become an issue. Would you agree with that?

I agree with you on that one, although the cars are so finicky that if they dont like something the computer cuts back the power. I would think this should be something they can tell from the dyno runs. I'm floored that Renntech is not doing anything and everything they can to help work out the issue.

VERY VERY surprised you are considering this a financial loss to you - If i paid $6400 for upgrades that were as bad as you said they were..... the moment i got off the phone with the dealer that you said was of no help - id have called my credit card, disputed that charge and made a formal complaint if they refused to fix it within their advertised claims......... not tryin to be an *** but - its kind of to dismiss this and let $6400 of ur money just get burned up....... i dont think ANYONE would do this.......

Litigation

It would just be Litigation, they would claim their software does what it is supposed and if the car is not producing the power they advertise something is wrong with the car. Sort of a finger pointing game.

Well

Well for that, I need to get some more information don't you think. With the units reflashed I will get the car on the dyno again. If the car is at factory rated power, then the upgrade is the problem. Makes sense right?

Yes That makes sense.............. however, im sure u can understand why the 2 of us were questioning your judgement call here........... like the previous poster said - that is a BOATLOAD of work hours you just wasted......... if the software was bad - and u can get them to see this - they owe u $6400 in refunds! But - to sit idly by and just say "oh whatever" thats VERY bad.

WOW

Sorry to hear that.

I have been thinking about a renntech ecu/tcu upgrade because it did not void warranty, vs. / the klemann. The local klemann dealer told me people came to him complaining they too did not get all their horses from renn. But he also said that the horsepower would not peak until I drove 150 miles after the mod.

I disputed a credit card order that I never received and they immediately credited my account and went after the company, 8 months after I placed the order.

Glad that you were able to work it out. These things always hit hard not just because of the money - but because these cars are a real expression of our hobby. Always upsetting when we are "let down" on these things.

I mean this in a light hearted tone --

There is a billboard on the way back from school I see everyday. It has a Saturn Outlook on it and it says...

"Saturn?" with the question mark and all. It's like they have no idea they designed it but are selling it anyways. I just find it hilarious.

There is a private joke to this point and if you know some history on the board you would understand.

Look at the previous posts. The changing of the SL600 for a Vanquish S, the flying in the Vanquish S, etc. all have to do with experiences that I had and they were poking fun at me. I also dumped my Vanquish S, hence the previous post.

It is all in fun.

With respect to the Saturn I had to buy it. I just bought a 45 foot motorhome and it needs a car that can be towed on all 4 wheels. As I understand it the only two cars that you can do that with are the Jeep and Saturn. I looked at both and chose the Saturn. It actually is a rather nice car for relatively no money. This one was only $40 and it rides and looks great. The most fun will be with my motorhome which is currently being custom made right now. It needs a tow car and Saturn won that job.
