Intercooler upgrade, fuel and temp

You are right, to get the stated horsepower, you do not need the intercooler upgrade, but with about 20 % of the cars we have seen, the intercooler pump was not working and the intake temperature was too high. Cooler intake temperature means more power.

The fuel in Florida is pretty good, we use a 93. As to temperature, most manufactures quote power at 65 degrees. Usually it is about 75 to 80 here and we still get the power.

As I am sure you are aware, the 600 have more power than MB quotes, the engine was developed for the Maybach which quotes horsepower as 550, most of the baseline testing we have done would indicate that 540 to 550 is what the 600 have stock.

How do you measure if the intake temperature is too high?

Short answer, you are welcome to call me at 561-845-7888. I need to get some cars out of here today.

But we use a MB Star diag system. Through the OBD port, under normal runing conditions the intake temperature should be between 50 and 60 degrees C. And can go up to 70 or 80 but should come down really quickly. If this does not happen, the car will start to loose power.

Well I spoke with Bob today and he is going to help me find the problem and was very helpful, I should have called earlier, but instead jumped the gun and assumed he did not care to reply.

Thanks Bob and see you soon.

Hey Bob, Jason Wade here, Im sure its also safe to assume that the 20% that you have identified as having problems intercooler problems were 600's that have had normal problems with their intercooler pumps, and not a direct correlation to the increased boost and HP. I have a modified 600 that makes similar numbers to your cars, but when I datalog even after numerous runs my IAT's are well withing spec and plummet everytime i step into the pedal as they should. My question for you is, I assume this is a fail safe modification, and not so much a necessity mod relative to to increased boost? Please advise. FYI it has been well over 4 years since we have met, but you gave me a tour of your facilities once, also I live in MD and my neighbor is Siggy/Boris with the AC Schnitzer M1, you should remember him

I recently performed the Renntech V-12 ECU/TCU mod and am thoroughly satisfied. My 1/4 mile e.t improved .7/7mph. Maybe there is an issue with 2006 cars that Renntech hasn't come across. My 2003 loves their programming and I would recommend it to anyone.

The intercooler pump upgrade is a safety measure. But with cooler intake temperature you can get more power and the power will stay longer.

Stephen,

Do you mind telling us when you get the Renntech upgrade from? Did you purchase it directly from Renntech?

That sounds great in theory or on another application, but specifically with the 600/65 motor youre not getting more power nor are you sustaining it any longer by increasing the pump volume and adding that tiny heat exchanger. The stock intercooler system can more than handle stock or increased boost.

So then why did MB increase the capacity of the IC system in 07?

I purchased my Renntech upgrade from Adam at Euroelites approximately 6 weeks ago. The ECU and transmission control unit are shipped directly to Renntech. I am pretty sure that this is the case with any vendor that sells Renntech ECU/TCU upgrades.

Thank you Stephen.

From my understanding, it makes more sense to add a smaller heat exchanger in front (cost wise) instead of purchasing the Renntech intercooler upgrade.

I would get a powerchip. I just had one of my clients S600 done and he was Super happy with the results. Renntech doesnt specialize in chips they offer the whole package. Powerchip, all they do is ecu tuning. They know there stuff.
