2004 SL500 vs. 2007 SL550
We just traded in our 2004 SL500 for a 2007 SL550. Beyond the obvious difference in horsepower (382 vs 307), I have been pretty surprised by the differences between the two cars. The 2007 has a much more "solid feel" on the road. It rides better, the steering feels better, and it has many fewer "squeeks and rattles" in comparison to the 2004 - even when th '04 was new. I knew they upgraded the suspension, but I had no idea it would make this much difference. Well done MB!
As an aside, the 2007 has the Panorama Roof. I passed on this option when I bought my 2004, and I now can see what a huge mistake that was. I had it on my E55 and I have it on my S63, but it really seems like an option that was just made for the SL. If anyone I know is ever interested in an SL, I would tell them that the Panorama Roof is not an option, it is mandatory!
Just my $.02

The difference in wait is so minimal it wouldn't make a huge difference.
It sounds like MBZ has really stepped its game up to another level, which is always nice to hear.

The changes from the 06 SL500 that we owned to the SL550 that we now have are just as noticeable as you say. The steering is improved and the transmission is much smoother on lower gear shifts. Didn't get the Pano because it wasn't availabe on the 50th edition.
