ya, it's a setting you scroll to through the dash/steering wheel buttons..
i think it's under 'convenience'? with the light dimming, etc.. can't remember off-hand.
and once you have that setting 'on', it only works when you have the passenger mirror button selected on on the center console near the gear selector.
at least that's how it is on my 03.
hope that helps-

Only works with the passenger mirror button depressed? That's news. It explains why even though I programmed the mirror to point down, it only works sometimes. Thanks for the info.

Hi All, I realize I am bumping a very old thread, but at least I searched first, and asked second.
I have a 2009 SL550 (the first year of the facelift), and after nearly 2 years of ownership, I can't figure out how to get the passenger mirror to tilt down in reverse. I know about having the passenger mirror selected, and to initially set it I need to shift into reverse and then use the controller to manually tip the mirror down. I put the car back into drive, and it never tilts back up.
I also tried the sequence from another MB model from about that time, where after doing adjusting the mirror, while still in reverse you press the Memory button on the door, then tap the mirror control pad to set it. That doesn't work either.
Oddly, there is NO MENTION of this feature in my owner's manual. While MB never ceases to amaze me with their logic, I've had this feature on every other MB model we've owned (1999, 2006, 2011 and 2020)… Was it by chance omitted from certain years, or am I missing one of the "stupid user tricks" like tilting my head in the same direction that I want the mirror to go in while adjusting it? Any help with the right sequence would be appreciated...

I looked there - but in the Convenience menu, the only option is Easy Entry/Exit, and for 2009 that option only changes the steering wheel (and not the seat). There are no other choices in the Convenience menu, it just goes between RESET and Easy Entry...
Page 140 of the 2009 the owners manual for 2009 also only lists the Easy Entry/Exit option....
I can't fathom why they would have mirror tilt option, but again, it's MB's logic...

Not every model has that convenience feature. My '06 ML350 has it, but my '07 SL550 does not.
Having said that, I think this feature is more annoying than useful. Unless the only parking you do is against a curb, it becomes a nuisance every time you need to park between two cars or in a tight space against a wall, or just back out of a space at the grocery store and trying to make sure you don't hit anyone coming from the side.
As mentioned above, I have the feature on my ML350, but I turned it off after a short while.

2005 R 230 SL350 (M112 3.7). Sold the 1966 W113 230SL recently
Personally I find the feature very easy to turn off, by tapping the left mirror button near the gear stick. I guess some of us just don’t use the car often enough to become totally accustomed to it’s nooks and crannies.
Odd thing, in my 2005 the easy enter/exit adjusts chair and/or steering wheel. One wonders why they would have dropped that.

I agree it can be a nuisance but I have mine activated through the dash settings at all times but just have the drivers mirror selected on the two push buttons for the exterior mirror adjustment.
That way it doesn’t work. However........ if I need it all I have to do is press the second push button (Passenger mirror selected) and the option activates immediately. Once I’m done just push the other selector button down again.
No need to completely deactivate from the dash menu.

Yeah, I had no idea it worked like that. As I said before, I don't have this feature on my SL, but I do on my '06 ML350, so I'll try this to see if it works on it.
