SL55 AMG
You can't convert one to the other. There are fundamental changes, like the engine, a new one of which will cost more than either of these cars.

Do the carfax on the SL500 and have it checked by a local Mercedes shop if it checks out it's a great deal.

I looked at the CAYENNE

I looked at the Cayenne, and had a loaner while they were working on my 01 S500, I really wanted one until I had it for a week, major disappointment. This first thing that shocked me was that the seats looked like they were set ontop of boxes on the floor and the panels were coming apart. The other thing that I didn't like was the ride height, it just seemed way to high compared to the size of the wheels. Quality just wasn't there.

Personally, I think the SL500 has too many miles. That's probably why it's priced the way it is. However, if the body is clean and you can get someone from a MB dealership to checkout the engine and tranny, it may be worth the money. The SL55 is priced too low for that few miles. Most 55's go for 55k to 60k. I would really check this car even more than the 500 for previous body damage, tranny and most of all, the supercharger. You know what they say about a deal that's too good to be true, it usually is. Good luck with your search.

The SL55 says it is damaged, major frontend so it is not a good deal. The high mileage on the SL500 should not be a problem if the car checks out. The engine/trans should be good for over 300K miles. The reason everyone worries about miles on these cars is because no one drives them much most are garage queens that are only driven around 5K miles a year. Low mileage can actually be harder on a car then high mileage.

Hey! You just described me and my SL! I guess I didn't read the entire ad. I agree with you about running from the 55. However, I plan to drive our SL more next year. I just can't see it sitting in the garage. I also would like to recommend getting some kind of warranty if possible.
