Help with setting 500SL menu!

I've been experimenting with my SL500 menu and I read the manual while doing it...however, for the life of me, the settings do not take EFFECT!
For example, I go to the Convenience Menu and select the seat and steering wheel ease of entry/exit and after doing that, it doesn't work. Then I try to select the Mirror (pivoting downward when in reverse) and after selecting it, it doesn't take effect.
What am I doing wrong, and is there an "enter" command or something that makes it work?
I've always thought that Mercedes had a complicated user's menu compared to other, like Lexus (also have an LS 430). I'm sure I'm using the steering controls to get to the proper areas, and selecting what I want, but after doing so, it doesn't seem to activate.
Please help.

hey stan-

i'm not sure about the entry/exit setting, but i do know that for the reverse mirror assist to work you need to have the passenger side mirror selected. so that mirror button next to the gear shift needs to be depressed...

hope that helps...

Well...that's a big help already. Thanks. So simple yet NOT stated in the manual!

As previously mentioned, for the parking mirror operation, the mirror adjuster selector has to have the passenger-side mirror selected.

For the seat/steering convenience setting, one thing to note is that if your normal setting has the seat near the back, it will not move the seat for entry/exit, just the steering wheel. Try moving the seat up really close to the wheel to check this setting.

Yes. The mirror trick worked. I'll try the seat/steering wheel adjustment. I'm sure though that my seat is not back all the way.

Everything seems to be working now. THAT MENU is really something you have to get used to. Seems a little bit more complictated than it needs to be. By the way, I do have 2 Masters Degrees.

It is a mercedes, they are all more complicated than they need to be. There are buttons on my car that I still have no clue what they do. But, with all this fancy technology and a million buttons they still make a great car.

You're right. I've had 3 Mercedes, and I remember this Menu system on one of my 300 E's. Hasn't changed..but I still love it!
