Help: Iphone or Ipod Users

Members,

what is the best way to connect an Iphone or Ipod to the SL command module? Have Mercedes came out with a kit?

Ipod

What year SL? I have a 2005 SL600 that is at dealer today having ipod kit installed. It is the one that replaces the 6 cd changer. Ipod shows up on command unit but not on cluster display. As I said, going in today, so I don't know how it is going to turn out, but I wanted it badly enough to take a chance.

Okay, the iod is in. I just got the car back last evening, and haven't really had an opporturnity to play with it to understand exactly how it is going to work, (although they ran through the operation at the dealer with me. I have to learn it on my own to have it stick) but what I know at this point is that the dealer hooked it up to a wire they ran into the lower console space, where the ipod rests in a case that evidently came with the install kit. The ipod shows up on the command as the muliti cd changer. It does not show up on the instrument cluster at all. At this point I can say that on the command unit you can see the artist and the name of song, and it gives you the ability to see playlists and so forth. It is hooked up through the MOST system and sounds great in the car. Interestingly, you have the option of opening the console and pulling the IPOD from the console (the cable they included is long enough to that), and operating the ipod as it would normally operate. This is in addition to operating it through the command system.

The only steering wheel control that works with the ipod is the volume control. You can't move through the songs on the ipod using the steering wheel controls. You have to use the nav button on the command system.

I will let you know more when I figure out more about it. I will say that it took them forever to get it installed, and I talked to the shop foreman who said it was pretty difficult to get it in correctly.
