That is good information. So the current discount on a new 2008 is $12000? The dealer is offering me a trade of $50K plus my 2003 SL with 48K miles on it for a new 2008 white that has a MSRP of $102,xxx. Which mean they are giving me $40K for my 2003. Avg. trade for my car is around $42K so we are within a couple of grand of a good deal? What do you guys think? Mines a CPO car and I have another couple of years of bumper to bumper warranty so I am covered for repairs on my 2003. I could just wait another year until the 2009's come out with the new frontend and then use maybe less $$$ to upgrade to a used 2007/2008? or am I just spliting hairs???

Like I said in the other thread....they are giving you less then you think since they really arent discounting their SL at all. The incetives arent coming from their pocket.

I'm looking at this as an opportunity. Mercedes is giving dealers $12K in money for all 2008 SL's that were in inventory in 2007, its good for 1/7/08 thur 1/30/08. If you combine this with the normal $7K you could bargin for on a $102K SL it is giving me a good deal. I can look at it as getting $10K off the sticker and $45K for my trade. So I bought it for my car and $47,500 cash. It has the color and options I was looking for and it is brand new. White/stone interior with chestnut trim 2008 SL550 with premium 1 package, trim package and the electric trunk opener. Lists for $102,605.00

The incentive is on ALL SL550's, whether they were in stock in 2007, or not.

I am in a similar boat. I have a 2003 with 42k and a 100K extended warranty. Last month the ballast went $800 non warranty. Today the strut started leaking $1,800 non warranty. The dealer has a new 2008, sticker $105,000 exactly the way I want. $17,500 off sticker for $87,500 and only $34,000 for my car which is mint (minus leaky strut). I think it is worth at least $40,000 from recent completed items on ebay. So $53,500 with my trade. Sounds like some people here did a little better. Personally I don’t like the look of the 2009. The main reason would be for no more service issues, having a navigation system that is usable, and the 550 motor. As much as I want a new car $53,500 seem steep. Also although I have not heard the 2008 I think the stereo in the 2003 SL500 is one of the best factory units ever.

Thoughts?

2005 SL55, 2000 CL500
Was at the Dealer for the SL63 Debut last week. They had like $20K off on the 2008 SL55`s still in stock. I was tempted. But going to wait for a couple years and get an off lease SL63 or another SL55. Having a brand new car does not float my boat that much for the difference in price. Plus with a used one I can see if its "cursed" before I buy it.

2004 SL500
I was going to wait for the redesign to trade up my 04 to a 09 SL550. After seeing recent pictures though, I just don't like the new front end, it has BMW 6 series looking headlights and the high hood. I could wait for the true next gen SL but most likely I will be looking into the new F149 hardtop convertible Ferrari. (supposedly a optional 4 seater as well) Either that or a 6 series convertible - it's nice to be able to share with friends and family what it feels like to drive topless around the beach.

Stereo is better in 2003, I traded my 2003 with around 40K+ miles for the new 2008 in January, got $7K plus $12K from MB total discount $19K. My car was around the same price as yours and I paid $47K difference. Very happy with the car and the deal. I did not like the looks of the new 2009 that I was seeing plus the SL550 is a lot nicer car then the 2003 SL500. They need to knock off another $6K and you are in the right ballpark. Trust me they will if you hold your ground.
