Tire Pressure Monitor
From what I understand this is standard equipment of the SL. I am considering getting it as an option on my new e-class. I have heard that it is too sensitive and thus alerts too frequently, that only a Mercedes dealer can replace a tire and still have the sensor work, etc.

It's always an option on the SL and well worth it. If you have an SL55 or an SL with different sized front and rear wheels, you do not get a spare, instead a can of gunk to seal the wheel and an air pump. This free's up useful space with an extra cubby in the trunk.
Point is, if you do not have a spare, it's good to know if a tyre is loosing pressure because you may be able to so something about it ahead of a major problem. Better than than being stranded on a cold wet November evening miles from anywhere.
I've not had any experience of changing tyres with this option but I expect that any company who can take proper care of my rims will be able to keep it working.
Actually, you've reminded me, my front right tyre is low, or so it showed yesterday. It was showing 2.7 bar, the others 2.9. This pressure difference was not enough to cause it to warn me, I saw it when playing with COMMAND while at a stop light. No shortage of in-car entertainment in this car!
