Rain = dead SL

Hey all, well with all this rain we are getting in SoCal...guess what happend to the SL?

The remote stopped working again!!! took the blade key and open the trunk to find...a very very wet trunk!

We just got the car back about 3 or so week ago with the same problem, but its back! I have already gotten the trunk seal replaced twice now in the last 12 months....

Any more thoughts what could be causing the water to get into the trunk?

This might sound like a stupid suggestion but have you ever considered

1) Go to a drive in car wash

2) Put in the coins

3) Exit the vehicle

4) Lock yourself in the trunk (with a flash light)

3.5) Make sure the emergency trunk release works

5) Look at where water is coming from

6) Go back to the dealership and tell them exactly what is leaking.

You know, just an idea.

The trunk seals

The trunk seals are a tricky repair in these cars, I have mine in the shop again, they feel they can take care of it this time. I hope so, need to be able to take the car out in the rain or at least be able to wash it without getting the trunk wet.

Trunk leaks

After reading the posts, I finally took a good look at my trunk after a car wash a couple of months ago, and sure enough, it was wet. After examining it, it was clear that the water was coming in at the point in the seals where the rear window meets the sides of the car. If you look at those, and then raise the roof, you can see where the seals have to come together perfectly. I took it to the dealer and they replaced all the seals, and adjusted the trunk lid (I suppose to press down on the seals) and to date (knock on wood) no leaks. I think it is pretty clear, when you examine the way the seals are constructed, and how they overlap on each side of the rear window, what the problem has to be. The real question is whether, if the roof is not lowered on a regular basis (or maybe if it is lowered on a regular basis, who knows) whether the seals will maintain their shape and therefore repel the water.

Lock your dealer in the trunk

Drive around in the rain

Leave the dealer in the trunk

Tell him he should have gottent in right the first time.
