Stuck in Park

So I have problems getting out of park. After trying a few times, turning the steering wheels back and forth, it gives in and lets me shift.

Searching the previous posts, it looks like I need a new brake switch. Does anyone know if this is an easy thing to replace? i.e. get the part from MB and replace it? or how much labor/cost is involved in getting the dealer to do it?

That happend to me, I just took it in and it was covered under warranty. I forget what was the reason, but it was a simple replacement part

Can you hear the brake switch activate when you push the pedal? because it's audible.

It may also be the little plastic piece in the shifter that broke off, which is also a common culprit for this problem and what happened to me.

Looks like something is wrong with the shifter. I just got a call from MB for $1,100.

Parts.com sells the complete shifter for about $300 and you can easily install it yourself. The instructions are on the R230 Tech DVD which Mercedes sells for $50.

Unfortunately, MB is already working on the car as I type this. What a bummer, i would given the DIY a shot too. Next time.

Been there before. My MB dealer took a week and a half
to do the job, it came out to $1700 billed to warranty.
Something about the keyless go has to be programmed and
then shipped to them. I dont believe it.

The brake light switch does not apply to the 230 when it comes to lock up.
They key not turning or the shift stuck is a DAS fault, and often the ign switch.

Keys when dropped can also do this, though the locking part is not affected

They replaced the whole shifting module for $1,100. I just cannot believe how many things have been replaced on this car. In Jan I had the steering pump replaced for $2800. Thats in addition to the alarm, the top mechanism and the fuel pump replaced under warranty. Talk about some serious quality issues...and I only have 40K some miles on it.
