Digital clock question

Hello everyone,

I have a close friend from work who is having a problem with setting his digital clock in his 2003 SL500. He doesn't have a internet connection so I told him I would try and spend a bit of time to get some details to help him out. He has said that he has looked the manual over from top to bottom but can't find where it explains how to manually change his time. Can someone please explain it to me so I can try and relay it to him? I would appreciate any help you can give.

Thanks,

Reese

He can adjust time on the COMMAND.
Go to SVC > date/time setting > set the time -- done.

Ok, now will he know what the COMMAND is? Is that some kind of program in the car?

Oh that would make sense. I will call and see if he tried that. Might as well ask the easy questions first and then deduce...

Here's an interesting situation. I reset the clock using the command screen as stated and the digital clock at the top of the dash did not switch over with the command clock as it has done in the past.
I plan to call the dealer next week.
Anyone else have this happen?

Disconnecting dash clock from head unit

Alexx, I expect what you did was to disconnect the dash clock from the head unit. There is a command in the settings menu that allows you to do this. I can't remember specifically where it was, but if you start at the settings menu you will get to it eventually. It gives you the choice of linking the two clocks or delinking them, and I suspect that must be what happened. Can't be sure but that is what I would try before making a trip to the dealer.

Thanks for the tip. I'll play with the settings menu and see what I can figure out. The MB engineers certainly had a great time designing the electronics on these cars. I wonder if they ever bother to drive them in the real world.

Honestly, it's not that complicated.

Don't expect an auto update when the time changes again...

I have it directly from MB product and Development that they have NO intention of making a software update for the 2003 clock. So each time the time changes we'll have to change it manually as you just did.

The manual tells you that " if the car doesn't know WHEN to expect the update NO update will occur and you will have to make the adjustment manually." If you call MB and ask them why your car won't auto update they will have a myriad of answers, none of which are correct.

The plain and simple truth is that the software in the clock needs to to updated and they aren't going to do it!

By the time you and your buddy have done it multiple times, you'll be much better at it than you ever wanted to be.

It's strange, my SL changes automatically but I have to change the R-class manually!

set the year in command

I have a related question. when i try and set the time in command it shows the satellite symbol on the screen and corretly sets the time however it shows the year as 2000. all the numbers are grayed out and wont let me select them to change it,

Do i need to park in a garage or under a bridge to block the satellite signal to get it in manual mode?

NO LONGER ACTIVE
You would need to have the instrument cluster re-coded for "NAV not present". This will allow you to set the clock manually.
