2006 SL500 price

Hello everyone, looking at this SL. Dealer wants $63k, working him lower, slow going, what "price is a steal" with 2009's due out very soon.
MB gave away so many SL's the last few years with cash in trunk deals. Kelly BB is worthless to me. I feel it does not reflect actual market conditions.

2006 SL500, 22k miles, Silver/Ash. Options:
317 Comfort Pkg
318 Trim Pkg
521 AMG sport Pkg
889 Keyless go
219 Distronic
220 Parktronic
614 Bi-xenon lights
Heated & Ventilated Multi-Contour seats

Thanks

You're correct, Kelley Blue Book is really not an accurate source for present market conditions. For that, you need to know what these cars are selling for at auction, and then give the dealer a fair markup.

Sounds like the price he's asking is very fair, IMHO. I purchased a 2005 SL500 back in October and paid 60,800. Car had low miles at 11,500, but not as well optioned as yours (I only have keyless go). These cars continue to plummet in value, due in part to the **** poor economic conditions.

If you love the car, then buy it; at that price you can't go wrong. Otherwise shop around some more. Plenty of these cars are around.

Hello again. Does anyone have access to Manhiem or Galves pricing? What is the latest wholesale for the above car.
Thank you

Wait a few months and the later model SL's will be taking a nasty hit due to the 09's.

That's a horrible price. Look at this 2005 SL55 AMG with only 11,000 miles for the same price. Half the miles and 200hp more for the same $$$. Who would pay $60K+ for the whimpy SL500 when you can get the AMG???

Hi guys-
I will be in the market for a new car soon and am actually moving to LA, where I know there is a lot of competition among Mercedes dealers, especially in the new car market. I have been looking at ebay and realized that a used SL may be in my price range (around mid 40s). I really want a 2005 because of the upgraded nav system and longer warranty coverage. I have seen several of these listed in mid to high 40s, but not many of these auctions are ending in a sale. I know that MB has given big discounts on these cars and there is a pretty big supply. With the new 09s coming out soon, what are the best prices anyone is seeing? Do you think it may get any better than this? I have some time before I really need the car and am probably going to look in Houston (where I am now) and LA. I feel like there may be more of these cars on dealer lots that are not all getting posted on the internet. Your thoughts?

Thanks

Josh

^ agreed, if people can get/are getting 20k+ off MSRP on new 08's, that should give you an idea of what type of price to look for on used 06's

Thanks for the info. I feel like used SL pricing is really all over the place. Kelley blue book is quite useless since they are still valuing some of these same cars in the high 50s-60s (used 05s). If you look on autotrader or cars.com, a lot of the dealers with 05s with mileage in the 20s and 30s are listing cars in the mid 50s and up. The smaller used car outlets and private people/ebay obviously list lower. There are just so many that I feel like there are some more savings to be had if I wait a little bit. I am partial to trying to get a CPO car from a benz dealer so I can add their extended warranty, although I could probably save more by buying private and then getting an outside extended warranty, but I am skeptical about dealing with those companies as I have never done so in the past.

mannheim wholesale prices are not realistic. These cars are at best avg. If you are buying a used SL you need the CPO extended warranty for the entire time of ownership. These things cost a bundle to fix and they are very complex. The newer the better from a quality perspective

I beg to differ....Manheim prices are what the dealer actually paid for the car at the auction. What is "unrealistic" about it? The price is what the price is whether the car is considered average, above average or below average. Now what the dealer decides to mark it up when it's up for re-sale is another story. And yes, absolutely purchase an extended warranty.

When consumers research and look at the KBB prices, now that's more unrealistic of anything...

Because if it is avg. when the dealer buys it they might have to spend thousands of dollars to bring it up to the condition it needs to be in to sell it on their lot. So since you don't know what needs to be done to any of these vehicles it is unrealistic to use any of these prices to determine what you should pay, unless you are buying at Manheim.

Just an FYI....dealers do not spend THOUSANDS of dollars on an average or above average car at any auction. The ONLY time dealers MAY spend thousands on a car is when it's below average and then they may not even buy it if the price is set to high (assuming there's a minimum bid) and they know approx. how much it will take ahead of time to bring the car up to par.

One thing you may not know or understand about the online auction is that you can actually go into the various auctions (pre-sale) and "view" the car online. Everything is coded as far as the details of an average, above average, and below average car. They list a description and usually pictures of the vehicle as well along with a description of what "faults" the car may have even when it's considered an "average" car (pictures may also accompany the faults on the vehicle)

The point being is that in today's world a dealer doesn't have to physically attend an auction and visually see the vehicle to know what he'll have to spend on it to sell it on his lot.

The point being is that in today's world a dealer doesn't have to physically attend an auction and visually see the vehicle to know what he'll have to spend on it to sell it on his lot.
So if a rear strut is wet from leaking fluid they will note that in the description so the buyer will know they will be spending close to $2K to replace the 2 rear struts on the SL?

Let me start by stating this: It is an unwritten rule that all faults cosmetic and/or mechanical no matter how minor should be disclosed on the car spec sheet before buying a car at any auction.

The dealer has the option of guaranteeing the car (free of mechanical problems) which intitles the dealer who buys the car to bring the car back within a 24 hr. period if something is found to be faulty or not disclosed on the spec. sheet. Most higher-end cars do have a guarantee.

Now, if a car doesn't have a guarantee and after another dealer buys it and finds out that it has a problem like the one you suggested about fluid leaking on a rear strut, then it's like anything else, it's buyer beware.

When you say the "buyer" will have to spend $2k to replace the rear struts, the buyer is a dealer so it won't cost them the same to fix it as it would a consumer bringing their car into the dealership to fix the same problem. And again, the dealer is paying usually below wholesale for the car anyway.

Hope that answered your question.

I had my lease termination conversation today with MB Financial, for 2006 SL500. It was a 27 month, 10,000 miles per year deal.

Overall, an unpleasant experience, starting off poorly after waiting 10 minutes for a rep to answer.

Lease is due late June. Buyout is $68,000. I asked if there are any further discounts on this, and was told no, not on this model. I told him that I can buy CPO at the dealer for less, with fewer miles, but he didn't budge.

Interest rate on purchase is 6.5%, $2,200 per month for 36 month note. Continuation of the lease for six months is $1,890 per month!

I have 19,000 miles on the car but will be certain to use every available mile prior to return.
