To reset the SERVICE light all you have to do is the following:
1. Turn the key to the ON position but do not start the engine.
2. In the mileage window, display the SERVICE "X" light. Press once.
3. Then press and hold for 3 seconds
That's all there is to it. The SERVICE light will go out. It will go to the next service schedule.

It is a PITA but is possible, i do not have all the info at my fingertips, it is at home somewhere but i just did it myself two months ago. The key is the following
Turn key and then his the rest button 3 times before the airbag light is done (You have to hit it three times within 2 seconds)
This will get you into the engineering screen.
From there you should be able to navigate the menus and get to the reset for oil. The tricky part then is you need to turn the key an additional click forward to get it to take. I cannot recall exactly when but if you experiment with it like i did it will magically work. Then you just turn the car all the way off and then turn the engine on and you will be happy that it is all set
If you search google with something like 2005 mercedes fss reset you will find one a post for i believe it is a CLK - the process is the same for our SL's
