SL600 Question

I'm looking at either an '05-'06 SL600. I was told that the V12s are prone to oil leaks and replacing the gasket costs thousands (labor entensive) and to get a SL55 instead. Has anyone had this problem and how reliable have your SL600 been? Thanks!

My SL600 has been very reliable. No big problems.

Had it for a month, so far no problems with the engine.
The only problem is that I am getting used to the power and want the Renntech ECU upgrade

The opposite is true. Mercedes's V12 is much more reliable than their V8 (not to mention its much more powerful!). Also, AMG's in general tend to be less reliable than non-AMG's.

Thanks guys. Not sure why this guy told me this so I called my dealer's foreman that I've known for 10 years and he assured me that the SL600 doesn't have that oil leak problem. In fact he would choose the MB V12 over the V8 in reliability in his opinion. The search continues.......

I read from previous posts that the NA 5.8 Liter V12 was a problem child...

Have not heard any issues regarding the 5.5 liter twin turbo charged model though, but if any of you had trouble with their V12's...please post

Our tuning for the 600s really pushes the game on. I am finding that the 600 cars work even better when we tune the TCU as well.

As for reliability, I haven't heard of any of our clients report any major problems, and my SL55 AMG has been virtually flawless.

My 04 600 has about 35k on it. Just had it to the Dealership prior to the warranty expiring and it was bone dry. Haven't seen or heard of anything like that and I'd lean towards it being the N/A V12 they were referring to.

And thank you MB for the $9k in warranty work. I got all kinds of stuff done - two new batteries, all new struts, etc.

S***, maybe I should sell it and buy a newer one now.
