sl 500 take roof down manually?Does anyone know how to manually take roof down,

my sl500 2003 model. think theres problems due to water ingress. it was the seals in the boot " aparently a common fault" I have managed to unluck the roof, and undo the two releases by allen key in the boot to release boot back , is there anything else i need to do as it folds down but wont completely sit down. frustrating as i want to at least do it manually untl i can sort out with mercedes whether they will foot the bill for repairs to the system. Any advice welcome. ust be a way in case of emergencies?? thanks guys

The procedure is too complex for me to describe. You can find it in the Mercedes WIS software though. It wouldn't be too bad if it weren't for the side flaps. If you don't have Mercedes STAR DIAGNOSIS software -- and who does -- then you are supposed to connect a special wiring harness to operate the flaps.

Why would MB "foot the bill" for an out-of-warranty repair issue? Was there a TSB issued on it or something?

Sorry, don't have a solution but unless the SL is either CPO or has an extended warranty (as many suggested is a must) you are probably going to have to pay for the repair. Most hard top repairs are very expensive. Maybe your dealer is will to help you in some way, feel fortunate. Most are not willing to budge very much if the car is out of warranty. Good Luck, I hope you have a good resolution.
