a lot of people like them. I've seen it on a few black ones and every time I walk by, the clear line bothers me. I just can't get myself to do it. I think on silver and other colors, it blends much better...

+1

I like the idea but sacrificing the look for protection is something I don't like.

best money spent in imo! ive done it on 3 of my cars including my current sl but my cars are all white. the earlier films yellowed a lot but the newer films like venture shield have a lifetime warranty against cracking and yellowing. also when i took the 1st film off, my hood and bumper looked brand new.

most people dont even notice it unless i tell them and i will take the trade off of seeing the film lines or rock/bug chips in my paint!

Same here my SL is white and no one knows it is on the car. Its hard to see unless your in the right light at the right angle and you have to be within a couple of feet of the car. I would do it with any color, I hate cars that look like they have freckles from paint chips.

I had it installed on my mars red SL550 and it's practically invisible. My plan is to have it professionally removed in 3 or 4 years. They did the entire hood, mirrors, rocker panels and fender flares. It cleans up the same as paint, and looks great! No bug mars or chips in about a thousand miles.

Go for it!

Pic's won't work you can't see it. If it would show up in a picture you sure would not want it on your car.

Just ran into it on a black car this morning. A person at work got a P-car and they put the protectant on the rear fender flares. When I first walked by I asked him who keyed his car, and he said I was the third person to ask him that. The problem on black is the edge of the bra ends up looking like a big scratch on the car. I guess the real dilemma is determining how much your car will get beat up. I drove my E55 for 2 solid years and the front looks the same. Of course, on my black car now, I'll probably see every chip. It's a lose-lose situation! Great...

I am not a fan of the clear plastic protectant. I considered it on my black GL550 and my white S550. After 10 months in the GL and almost 18 months in the S, I could not detect any damage to the front end of either one. Both were involved in cross country jaunts of 5000+ miles.

The new clear coats and paints are much improved and having seen the install on a black S, I just did not want to go that direction. I am sure that in some localities the need is greater for some, but from my experience I would not recommend or install it. YMMV

I have it

On my AMG and SL. I got the 'bikini cut' where it angles toward the rear of the car. Visible but not at all obtrusive.
$600 in Winston Salem and I highly recomment them. Ex-Pel of the Triad

Clear bra

I have also had the clear bra installed on all of my vehicles, and strongly recommend it! (Keep it waxed).

Just three days after taking possession of my BLACK '09 SL63, the front bumper of my SL was getting rocks chips all the way down to the white undercoating. The front of my brand new car was starting to look really messed up, and since I had many more days of exhuberant driving ahead of me, I wanted to find a way to protect my car FAST. From the recommendation of someone I trusted, I went to one of the Clear Bra stores and had a Clear Bra installed on the front bumper and lights of my SL63. The installer did a horrific job. It turned out to be everything I feared, including cutting the paint (albeit a teeny tiny cut) on my brand new car. That store realized they couldn't handle the number of facets for the SL63 and they referred me to another store, and the master installer for the Clear Bra Company, to have him redo the work. The difference between the two installs was like night and day. You cannot see the Clear Bra on my car now, unless you get on your hands and knees and search for it. My husband has since had it installed on the front bumper and lights of his BLACK '08 Audi R8; done by the same master installer. You also cannot see his Clear Bra. It is ALL about the installer. Get several recommendations for the same installer before going forward (there are good installers out there). And if you are going to do the hood, do the whole hood, so there are no chances of seeing any lines running across the hood. My brother has one of the clear-bra-type protectants on his red Corvette and he loves it.

We take our cars on long exhuberant drives, both during the week and on weekends, and we are so happy to have the Clear Bras on our cars now. After several months of driving, the fronts of our cars still look brand new! Clear Bra touched up the chips on my bumper with MB factory paint before installing the bra on my car, so my white undercoating chips are gone and my bumper looks factory new.

Oh, and one other clue to a good Clear Bra store is to see what kind of cars are in their service bays. Drive by several times. The first Clear Bra store that did my Clear Bra install (the disaster store) ended up having Kias and Suburus in their bays. The second Clear Bra store I went to (with the master installer) had one Porsche after another in their bays (including a BEAUTIFUL brand new BLACK GT2). Big difference in cars and quality from store to store. I could right a book about this experience now. Live and learn.

I bought my car used (white) and it has a clear bra ...also on rear of both sideview mirrors......it is not noticable at certain angles....I think it helps particluarly with cleaning bugs from the surface...
