42,000 mile B service/5 years old

I drove 205 miles to the Nashville dealership for my B service and the trip took about 3 hours one way. We drive to the Nashville dealership for any major repair work. According to my trip computer, the 2004 SL500 got 24.7 MPG. The 2008 C300 loaner only got 26 MPG for driving the same trip.

I paid $2,847.55 for the B service, brake fluid flush, new front rotors and pads, new starter battery, alignment, and four new Michelin Pilot AS tires. MB also replaced both CATS under recall.

Getting the MBCA discount was priceless.

CATS

Do you know why they had a recall on the CATS?

Nope,

I had black smoke a couple of times. Other than that I have no idea.

On bill it states inspected catalysts and determined replacement necessary of both sides. Replace left and right side per recall.

Sulfer Smell

I get the sulfer smell occasionally, but the dealer doesn't seem to think anything about it.some people have said the cats could be bad. I have no idea.

My CATS did have the sulfer smell when I had the black smoke. I would go to a new dealer. That is why I drive 200 miles to Nashville for major repair work on my car.

On my car the service is set for every 10,000 miles. He could be using 15,000 miles for each service.

Anyone, correct me if I am mistaken, Catalytic Converters are covered
under the 10year/100,000 miles emissions warranty. I had mine replaced for free when I owned a CLK. The clicking sound is common, and the dealer replaced it. If u have a 2004, shouldn't have to pay for the replacement.

I have a click/rattle coming from somewhere behind me, also. Did it always sound the same, regardless of speed or engine load? I was thinking it was coming from the roof or trunk, but the sound sounds like its low behind me.

If the 2004 SL600 has the same CATS as the 2004 SL500, you may want to ask about the recall.

I belive djamer stated
