SL/R230: "Sirius" problems
"Sirius" problems
So, the sirius radio on my car is in and out more than a prostitute in a Vegas casino. Any one else have similar problems?
It seems to most of the time be in the same spots, but I can't believe just driving under a tree with leaves should affect my signal reception. That's ridiculous. I also lose signal sometimes right on the highway (not under a bridge). I suspect there's a problem, but the fact that I seem to lose signal in some common places makes me also think the sirius "signal" just sucks.
My friends with XM seem to have no issues like this, but I don't know anyone with Sirius.

I also have occasional lose of signal. But usually it's near obstructions. (trees, bridges ect)
What surprises me is that I almost never have loss of signal problems in my ML63. (even works in the garage!)
Luckily it doesn't happen often.
But if you're having signal loss without obstructions then you may have other problems.

My Sirius starting going in and out today even when I am not going under trees or an overpass. Sirius sent a new signal but that didn't help. I went to the dealer and a tech showed me full signal strength. Then going home it happened again. I called Sirius and they said it may be a loose antenna. So I returned to the dealer and the tech (who was very nice) drove the car and it went out for him. He thinks it's the antenna. He ordered a new antenna and will replace it when it comes in. I've only had my car about a month and have become very attached to satellite radio.
PS: Even before this I would lose signal under trees.

Same problems here. First visit to the dealership they replaced the entire command unit, Sirius tuner and updated software. They kept it for 2 weeks. The SA said the warranty charge was in the neighborhood of $5K. The reception was a little better when I got it back, but it was nowhere near acceptable. Within 3 days it quit working entirely and I took it back. They replaced the Sirius tuner again and did a few other things like replacing cables, etc. Then they decided to try a new antenna. Bingo. That fixed it. So, long story short, MB spend about $6K buying me a new antenna.
Have them check the antenna.

Yeah, they upgraded the software a few weeks ago and the reception is slightly better, but still not great. I occasionally lose it in just open air. Having said that, if I go under ANY tree, I pretty much lose signal. If it's a canopy of trees I understand, no one I know with XM his this much problem. I definitely need to take the tech on a ride and "show him how to lose the signal". Maybe a quick antenna replacement will do it. Sirius also gave me an 800 number for MB to call so they can diagnose the problem together, if MB so chooses...

I know what you mean by bad reception. When mine was acting up, it lost signal when I drove by a stop sign. It would loose signal on the open road when there weren't any obstructions anywhere close. Now that it is fixed, it works as well as the XM in my prior Lexus. It is now extremely rare when it looses signal.
