Consumer electronics offline

New to this forum....looks like a great source of information. My 2003 sl has a error message showing "Consumer electronics offline" along with a battery displayed....I assume this is a battery issue with the battery in the trunk...it appears... then goes away after the car runs for a few minutes ,.....lately it stays on even longer....does the battery in the trunk need replacement? It is the original battery. Are there replacements avaiable other than MB battery from dealer?

Go to the dealer they will tell you to install a new battery. The battery is special you can do a search but buy the correct one or you won't be happy.

You must be not driving you car regularly. This message usually happens after the car has been parked for days. The fact that the message disappears after runnung for a few minutes shows your consumer battery (trunk battery) is charging back to normal and should still be fine. You might want to buy a battery tender (trickle charger) and hook it up to the trunk battery while the car is not being used. This will alleviate the problem completely.
