Is there a way to open the top 1/2 way and keep it there. I am trying to replace weather stripping but need to keep it half way up. If the ignition is turned on it still will eventually close I have found. Need to keep it 1/2 open for about a hour. Thx!

I don't believe there is a 1/2 way mode by design. The roof will be allowed to close by gravity after 7 minutes with ignition off, 7 seconds with on.

This vario-roof diagnostic PDF, originally contributed by another forum member, may allow you to reverse-engineer a suitable stop position by removing a microswitch, e.g. find a defective position and remove the microswitch that causes the roof to default to that position.

However, in my opinion, monkeying with the roof controls falls into the "Don't try this at home" category.

SDSL, Thank you for your reply. I noticed the pdf. Is this from the factory training manual?? I am trying to replace the right curved weather stripping that seals the top to the body. If there is anything describing how to do this it would sure help. I can see how it attaches but I need to remove the glass/black metal panel that is in between the rear window and the right side of the top. Thank you!! FG

It's not worth it in my opinion. Let the dealer do it. I just had them replace the front-seal on my 05 and I can tell you it's not an easy thing to do. I'm very friendly with the mechanic at my local dealer and I watched him do the seal. The MB DVD shows the seal install process by I still think it's cheaper for them to do it because they replace them all the time and have a special tool that holds the roof 1/2 open. Plus their work is guaranteed for 1 year. Yours isn't.. Good luck..........
