why so expensive

i am sitting on 25K worth of cash waiting to buy one of these cars for the past few months maybe since may/jun.
Mind you, this is a 6 year old design, and I have yet one that I can find in my price range..

Maybe you should consider a less expensive car. Maybe a used BMW 3 series would be a better fit.

Don't matter if it's a 6-year old design. It's $100k new and the same body style was $100k last year. Even at 6 years old, the car's style looks newer than most any car out except maybe the new CL and maybe the CLS (only CLS with sport package).

If you only have $25k, this isn't the car for you. You may buy one eventually but one repair can easily cost you 20% of that. These cars are expensive to maintain. I had one oxygen sensor replaced (out of four) today and an oil change and it ran me $600. I thought that was a decent price, too.

Try a CLS? Get a used one? There are other options, $25K can get you in the door on a lot of MB's just not this one.

Sitting on $25,000 cash at this time may be a blessing in disguise, since the economy is coming apart and cash is now king. In the meantime, SL car prices will keep falling (depreciating) faster, while your money in the bank compounding interest is rising. (FDIC now insures deposits up to $250,000 guaranteed) So if you have the patience, frugality and thrift to wait a couple of years, you will have the (bargain) car of your dreams to drive for many more years to come. Good Luck

$25K for an SL500 seems a little light. There may be something out there, but the old adage "You get what you pay for" really holds true for cars.

While you may find what appears as a 'bargain' at the outset, may be a car with stories... mechanical issues, accident damage, blah, blah blah. and let's not forget about maintenance and parts... those costs stay the same.

If $25K is a stretch, it might just be a better idea to get a cheaper car.
