Upgrade from Comand model year 05 to 08? or any compatible aftermarket?

Hi people, do you think it is possible to change the comand model year 2005 dvd based (with most connection) to the new unit introduced in the model year 2008??. I know it was totally impossible to swap from 2003 comand CD unit (based on can bus) to 2005 dvd (based on most system) but what about moving from 2005 with newer one???
My 2005 dvd comand have different problems and I will probably have to replace it but I don't like the idea to pay a lot to get the same one where I can not integrate ipod and navigation is worste than in a tomtom system. If it's impossible to move to the 2008 model does anyone chenge his unit dvd based with any aftermarket system from Alpine, Pioneer or Kenwood?? I hear it should be complicated because of the integration of the system in the car but does someone know anything about it? thanks

It would be far too expensive to do, due to the huge amount of wiring needed

so you know wires are completly different even from 2005 dvd to the new one out in 2008.....I'm sure in a few years even mercedes will stop producing new maps and we will all have an old useless comand with no possible way of upgrading......

This will never happen as the maps are not made by MB and many other cars use the same ones

Ok Television thank you,
anyway here in Europe maps for older Comand CD based are made by teleatlas and used in many different cars and blaupunkt units (they are chip and actually updated every year) while for what I know the maps for dvd comand 2005 are produced only by mercedes and I'm a bit worry they could stop updating.... or do you know there are other producers of dvd maps or they are compatible with other navigation system?
