Steering Wheel Shift buttons

I just bought a 2005 SL500 and it is awesome in every way.

I think i may have one issue, the buttons on the steering wheel are giving me an issue. In order to get the car into manual mode i have to tap the ****ing stick in the center console then on the steering wheel both the left and right buttons make the car upshift, neither maek it downshift.

I thought the left was to downshift and the right to upshift, on my car both just make in go from 1-6 then into D

It is under warranty so no boggies as the car if perfect otherwise but what am i missing here??

Tap the forward edge of the button to shift down, the aft edge (nearer to the rim) to shift up or maybe opposite. I never use them so I always forget which is which.

Also RTFM and welcome to the club.

LOL - got it and just tested it and it works fine, thanks

I am surprised how much different the car is with ABC in sport mode, it makes me not miss my vette at all

Now if i could just get the damn seat into a position that does not hurt my back or put me near the roof (I am almost 6'5" that would be great. With 12 way seats you would think i could do that LOL

It took me about a month to get the seat and the steering wheel just right.

Regarding shifting with the steering wheel controls, just like the center console shift, if you press and hold the up (+, or the side closest to the edge of the wheel) you will make the transmission go into the "D" (Drive or "automatic") mode.

@Robertpel99, yea I've got the same problems with the seat. I'm still slightly adjusting it for my perfect driving position. I do remember that when I first got in, the lumbar support was set to the highest setting and I felt like it was jabbing me in the lower back. After turning it all the way down, I noticed my back started hurting if I was in the car for longer than 5 minutes. Turning the lumbar support back up fixed that right away. Though it doesn't seem like much, I would try that along with adjusting the thigh support first.
Also, I too wish the seat would go down a little lower, but there's nothing that can be done about that. (I'm 6' 1.5" myself.)
