Talking Actually drove the new SL500 yesterday

I have a SL55AMG on order from 2 different dealers (#1 and #3). Went to the Detroit Auto Show four days ago and was blown away by the great looks.I was told at the show that the SL55AMG would arrive stateside in August (person who told me actually called MB while I waited to get this info!!) Was driving down the street yesterday and saw a silver SL500 ahead of me with a manufacturers plate on it. I followed the car till it stopped in the guys driveway. Turns out I knew him...a local MB dealer service mgr who I have known for many years. He gave me the keys and I took it for a ride for 15 minutes. Awesome handling...not quite the feeling of a Porsche...but almost. Much more refined and just as much fun without the rough ride of the Porsche. Interior trim was awesome in appearance and fit and finish. Interestingly, no cupholder! There was a cupholder (perhaps) aftermarked gizmo in the glovebox that seemed to fit into a hole on the inboard side of the passenger seat. Not sure if that was an OEM product or what. Car had the sport package which is awesome and the only way to go if you are not getting the SL55. Sorry to be so wordy...1st post.

there are 2 cupholder...

There are two that pop out from under the Command system. These days you can't produce a car without cupholders, as disgraceful as that is...

Popped the roof before the ride..it IS a German masterpiece of engineering. But because it was 30 degrees (in Michigan)..did not actually drive with the top down.

Ah yes. Too bad about the weather factor. But a sweet ride nonetheless!
