The roll bar deployment is quick... like a third of a second or something. Surprising that it deployed when the car was still basically horizontal, though all 4 wheels left the ground. I think it probably goes up when more than one wheel loses contact with the ground as it also deployed when 5th Gear's Vicki lapped an SL55 on their old test track.
Unfortunately, I was the victim of motion sickness while riding in a friend's Spec Miata on a tight, twisty road course. Thankfully I never did quite let go... I just got to enjoy the dizziness and queasiness for the next hour or so. My fault, I know I get motion sick and forgot my Dramamine.

Just the button is necessary. It's not that hard to get the roll bar to pop up, at least it wasn't in my friend's R129. With his you just pushed the button to lower it again. I haven't had the opportunity to get my R230 on the twisties and test that theory.

Excellent video! Yep, it's pretty amazing what you can get away with despite it being a 2-metric-ton car.... Never pushed a car like that, but it certainly makes me want to look for a hill where I can leave the asphalt.

I always wonder, if when I have the top down and the windshade up and roll bar deploys does the windshade whack me in the back of the head? Try pressing the up button with the windshade up and you'll see!

The novelty of getting air wore off for me when I started having to have mounts replaced and new mounting points for my differential welded into the subframe on my Z3.

I guess I must be a really boring 27 year old driver, because I owned a R129 and now own a R230 and never had the roll bar come up.

Funny video. Was driving with top down Thursday and pushed it to make it through an intersection when I got a little air and popped the roll bar. Had to read manual to remember how to release it. Not something I expected but glad it works.

Hahahaha....reminds me of driving around Corsica....had 3 friends with me in the car and the one in the front passenger seat was fine, but the two in the back needed breaks every 10-15 minutes to get some air. I kept them borderline puking for a good 2-3 hours...needless to say, no one wanted to be my friend that day :-)
But that video does make me want to go out and drive the car like it's supposed to be driven, if only someone would just get rid off cops for an hour or two.

What is the name of the color of that sl55 in the clip? Is that metallic blue? I checked the e-brochure and the 09 SLs have the option for tanzynite metallic blue. I really like that color, its dark like black but has more color to it, that brings out the fine lines of the SL body that a plain black color hides.
