SL/R230: Mercedes Dealership vs Private dealerships.

Mercedes Dealership vs Private dealerships.
After I buy a R230 I would like to add a few mods to it. Some of the mods would be a better sounding exhaust, better command unit, rims, and remote starter. If I purchase an SL500 from a private dealership instead of a mercedes dealership, the money I save I could use it to fix future repairs on struts, or use it to purchase mods. I really like the R230, and would like to keep the vehicle for as long as I can, hence Iam willing to invest the mods into it.
If I purchase the SL500 from a mercedes dealership, I would probally be able to get 1 year of factory warranty and after that maybe another 2 years of extended warranty.
Should I just look real hard for a really good condition SL500 with all struts in excellent condition from a private dealership. The money I save I could use it to fix future struts repairs and add mods? Or should I buy a more expspensive SL500 from a merecedes dealership were I would get warranty benefits for about only 4 years?
