Back pressure is good???

Alright, I finally found a muffler shop that will take my piece of 3" stainless U-bend, cut it in half and use it in replace of the secondary cats on my SL55. The thing is; the muffler guy says "I can do it, but all it will do is make the car noisy and you will lose HP because of less back pressure." Correct me if I am wrong. Most motors with power adders i.e.: SCs, benefit from reduced back pressure. Especially if they are moded like mine is with an oversized SC counter pulley, 80mm TB and headers. If I remember correctly, Simon at EvoSport says it is worth about 15 HP and Vadim at VRP told me "it is a good mod." The muffler shop guy's ability to weld pipe is beyond reproach. Could it be that he just does not understand the 55 Kompressor? What do you think?
