2900 mile road trip and only 1 minor problem
i just got back from my southeast tour visiting family. i drove from NYC to Maryland to N.Carolina to Georgia to myrtle beach then to a western part of S. Carolina and then back home. it was a helluva drive doing it by myself but it was fun. i could not have had a better car to do it in. i drove with the top down on several legs of my trip. i got a lot of looks and stares from people as i passed them by which was cool
i had 1 problem which was when i was on cruise control at about 90 i got the warning message "reduce engine oil level". i slowed down and it went away after about 1 minute of slower driving but it happened about 3 times during my trip. i looked it up in the manual and it says my oil level is too high and i should remove some oil which doesn't make sense. i have always had my service done at the dealer and i have never seen this message before. my last service was in November.
has anyone had this message before?

Similiar Message
I haven't had this on my SL600 but have had it recently on my S500.
I got a white message say Reduce Engine Oil Level, then another saying STOP Turn ENGINE OFF OIL LEVEL in RED, then moments later another white message saying Add 1L of Oil.
Gee, which one to believe.
Told it is probably a bad sensor.

I have no idea about your error message.
Sounds like a fun trip. How did your front bumper fair? I took my SL on a 2000 mile trip and the front bumper get trashed from rock chips, etc. It was also the dead of winter and I was driving in the snow so that could have had a lot to do with it.
Luckily, I had the car repainted under an insurance claim a few months later and now it looks brand new again.

I had a similar issue with my SL55, and it was the oil level sensor. $100 part and about an hour to put in. Easy fix.

I had the same message after a recent oil change at the MB dealership.
It only came on after 30 mins or more of freeway driving.
They told me to bring it back & they reduced the oil level.
I've since done 8K miles without any problems

of course i did get 2 small nicks on my hood where the clear bra ends, go figure my next ride i'm just gonna wrap in a bubble
thanks guys for the tips. im gonna have the dealer check it out. i dont think its a bad sensor since it only came on during this trip and only when i was cruising at high speeds. i actually think they put too much oil in it. but I'll see

George bro....u shoulda hit me up when you were in MD! I coulda ordered my links and we could have put 'em on. Maybe hit DC for a night out or somethin' ...
I got that same message on my black SL500, come to find out it was the sensor that was bad and it was replaced. Then it never happened again; true it would show at highway speeds only and abruptly occur outta nowhere
That clear bra is a good thing to have; but only when the car is new or the front end is freshly painted; figure if there are already some chips on it and whatnot, why bother putting it on at that time...bet it really helps on the long trips though!
