Exclamation MY2011 SL

"The 2011 will not be a body style change - that is expected for model year 2013".

This has been posted before, but it still does no make any sense. The car I have - a 2009 - is a mild update. Why would MB update it again in the first quarter of 2010 as a 2011 just one year after the 2009 MY update.

Chips, you are correct, it makes no sense. I am holding off on getting a leftover 09 until I know what is coming. It seems strange that they would go through the trouble of a mild update to carry it for less than 2 model years. Weird.

On another note, how do you like your Command 2.5 navigation? Does the ipod adaptor work as good as they say and how is the bluetooth?

Command needs a controller such as the S Class has. The in-dash combination of arrow buttons amd an ok button is too hard to use.

I do not use an ipod. I find the SD card with mp3 files in folders to be easier for me.

The bluetooth is flawless unlike some of the other MBs I have had.

2011 and 2009 are gonna be the same car... maybe minor minor changes. New bodystyle? Who knows when that will arrive but def not for MY2011

MY11 SL = MY09 + ....

Only a few small modifications are expected to the MY11 SL but the exterior will remain the same. The MY09 refresh just happened so I can't imagine this happening again in such a short period of time. From what my dealer has told me, the head unit will get HD Radio and Sirius traffic information. Other versions of this head unit already have this so this seems reasonable. He also mentioned the steering system would get a variable ratio system which is already launched in europe so this also seems likely. Other than that, I don;t think there is much of a change. The biggest decision I would think has to be the deal on a MY09 vs. the MY11.

Then why skip the 2010? All of this still makes no sense. More important for the SL line is a complete replacement as just done with the E Class. Yet we hear nothing at all on this.

I have a 2009, which I acquired this spring straight off the boat. If the 2011 is coming out right after the first of this coming year, then when is the 2010 going to be sold?

I talked to the general sales manager at the local MB dealership and he said that the reason they were not making a 2010 model was simply a matter of supply and demand. He says that MB of North America currently has a years supply of 2009 SL550's and didn't see why they would produce a 2010 until they clear the pipeline. I checked Automotive News and couldn't see anything about it, but it does make sense. If anyone hears anything else, please let us know.
Thx.

I'm skeptical. Mercedes sales are down, but based upon published figures (picture) the SL is selling comparatively well. Year-to-date sales of the SL through May were off 21% from 2008. In contrast sales of the S-Class were off 54%, and they aren't skipping 2010 for that model.

There will not be 2010MY SL...the 2011MY will be sold in the spring of 2010....the 2011MY will have a few small changes but nothing major.

So I have heard here several times. The question is why? As in first why make more changes for 2011 when the 2009 was just changed? Second, why as in why bring out the 2011 so early? Now if the answer as suggested above is too many 2009s leftover, I will go for that. That makes sense for MB USA overall. It does not make sense in my area as there are few left. But if there is a nationwide oversupply, then that is the answer I have been looking for. So I will wait and see. If I spot 2010 window stickers on the SLs at the local dealers this Fall, then I will be back with the news. Otherwise, I will wait for the answer to the more important question, which is - When are they going to come out with a complete replacement for the current long in the tooth SL?
