Came back and saw this?
Sorry, but this should have been in a new thread originally and I replied with a new thread on another post.
Don't you just feel sick when you come back from a walk and see that your car has been hit. Couldn't believe it, although small and nobody of course saw anything. Anyway, by the front passenger headlights and all around the side, were black marks. Someone obviously reversed, hit me and disappeared pretty quickly. I was able to get all the black marks out(could have been his/her black rubber bumber) but was horrified to see scratches and cracks on the headlights which I cannot remove, in fact, it's really strange as some of the cracks are coming from within the headlight as if it was somehow impacted from within. In other words, there is no leackage, cracks or breaks showing on the outside of the glass, but appears from the inside....
Anyway, I believe I am insured for this. Anybody know if the whole light unit needs to be replaced and price(that would cost a small fortune) or if it's just a matter of removing the outer lens and what that costs?
Could have been worse I suppose, but took me 2 days to calm down and was very lucky to easily get all the black stuff off, as it looked a right mess originally. Thx.

SL500
So sorry to hear about this. I have had people hit my car before and take off. Its very upsetting.
As for the headlight, I hope you are sitting down. The headlights for my 2003 SL500 were close to $2,000 a side.
I can only guess what the 2009 model would cost.
