Is the nav cd/dvd in? I only get that message after starting the car before the DVD loads.

Pretty sure your car comes with cd. I found mine on ebay. They have cd's & dvd's. The cd's are numbered for each section of the US, so you will have to find the # for your area

My DVD was there, but it was scratched. Same message...

Then DVD reader was bad. MB warranty replaced that.

I believe the dvd player is only for the navigation discs. I recall reading that the US command units do not allow for movies to be played for fear of accidents. I could be wrong.

That is correct. Model years 2005-2008 can only play back DVD's with sound and not picture. For MY2009, you can get the picture as well. A company by the name of Nav-TV can unlock your unit so that you can play DVD's as well as hear them. Hope this helps...

Maybe the reader? Nip into a dealer and ask them to load a "good" CD.
