Hey guys i'm new to this forum. I am in the process of buying a 2004-05 sl500. I've been looking around a few places and i think i found the one. I'm going to be blowing my whole wad on this car so my question is, what kind of security do these cars come with other than the stock alarm? Do they come equipped with any extra theft prevention equipment? I work at a mall so a lot of the time its going to be sitting outside after closing hours.

The alarm is the standard anti theft system from MB. Doesn't include glass breakage or interior motion detector. Basically if the door is opened while the vehicle's alarm is set it goes off. If you want a real alarm, you'll have to go with an aftermarket alarm. If your vehicle is going to be outside in a mall location, make sure that you get an alarm that includes a remote that alerts you of any type of intrusion including glass breakage. You also might want to think about Lojack or if you visually want to stop most thieves, get a Club. Best of luck to you and once you get your SL enjoy it.

I'd be more worried about repairs and getting a extended warranty!!! Read the forums, a warranty is a must. Struts are huge $ , anything with these cars is huge $, and many issues out there. they are beautiful and amazing to drive, but expensive to upkeep.... That's beside the expensive services they need.
