Can i replace tire valve stem or new sensor only ?.
Hi all
My 2003 SL500 has the optional Tire Pressure Monitoring and i was getting a "pressure sensor - visit workshop" error code each time i started the car. I had replacement tires fitted on Friday and the tire guy said staright away that he valve stem in one tire is bad. I had a look with him and sure enough the stem is sticking out of the valve top and as soon as i remove the valve cap the air leaks out like its punctured. Putting a metal valve cap on has given me a temporary fix.
Anyway can i replace just the valve stem or do i have to renew the valve & sensor ?. MB dealer says that its not possible to replace just the stem although the tire guy told me it can be doen quite easily. He didnt want to do it incase he did something to the sensor.
A valve stem is $10 whereas the sensor is $150 or something. Im in the UK and they arent even available from MB unless they are special ordered.
If i can replace the stem / fix the stem id much rather do that.
Any advice more than welcome
Thanks
Carl
