Buying 2004-2006 sl500 or sl600, what should I be looking for?

Well my brother is looking at these two cars and wants to know which would be a better buy. What are the known problems on these cars and is there anything I should be weary of when looking at these cars? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

never buy MB again. Should have stuck w/ BMW. Lesson learned..$ gone, MB service richer!

Basically this FORUM is a REPAIR forum..I liked it when it was about having fun, modding etc..95% of posts are about problems...great source of info..but SAYS ALOT ABOUT THE POOR PRODUCT. i feel sorry for people who dropped huge $ when new.

^^agreed, get a warranty, everything can be fine on the car when you buy it, get it home and before you get plates on the vehicle there is some sort of an issue. I would easily say that my sl600 is the most fun in a car that I've ever had, and every time I drive it I get a thumbs up, a nod, or someone saying nice car, but these cars aren't always 100%. I work for a Lexus store and although the SC430 doesn't have the power or lines, I had a 2002 with 100k come in last week and there were 0 issues with the car aside from the antenna mast was busted and it needed detailed. If mercedes figures out a way to make these cars actually last with all of their bells and whistles, they would be unstoppable.

*stepping off soap box now*

best car i've driven, love the look, he ride..but not wrth the headaches IMO for that. the dealer is a big issue also..they troubleshoot..go there 3-5x for 1 issue, that they said they fixed first time, SO ANNOYING! i see service guy, more than my friends and family NO SH*t!
I actually think better to lease a 500 new..if you do it.
