SL/R230: Mercedes takes hit in quality surveys
I wonder if their quality is poor in their $100k plus vehicle line?

FRANKFURT, Germany, Feb. 4 — Mercedes-Benz, famed for its engineering prowess, is suddenly facing tough questions about the quality of its cars, with several surveys showing that the stately German brand may now trail some decidedly down-market competition.

I was almost embarrassed to let anyone ride in my CLK.
Granted, it's not built on the S platform and it's not an SL, but BMW and Audi do not allow a marked deterioration in quality from top to bottom of their lines, simply because 1) that makes a bad statement about committment to quality and 2) any car mfr knows that over time, satisfied buyers of entry level models move up to high line models within the same marque....if satisfied.
I have very little doubt that MB will raise the bar with the SL.
But they've their image slip over the past 7-10 years and ultimately that will erode prestige and resale values.
