2005 SL500 - Phone Questions
I have a 2005 SL500 - it does not have the puck and if you press the telephone button on the dash it says tel unavailable. However, if you press the 'i' button or the monkey wrench button in the console - the nav display screen will light up and it says "Connecting" - So my question is does this mean it is wired for telephone but all I need is the puck?
Also - does anyone have any experience with iTronic BT add on you can buy from cartronics.com that says you can install for 795.00 and will allow the phone system to work regardless of whether the car is wired or not?
I want the phone system to work - but I also want the most cost effective approach. I'd appreciate anyone's thoughts on this... thanks.

I have the same year and had same issue. Went to a dealer and about $300 later with the "puck" installed, I had the bluetooth enabled phone working just fine. Only downside though is that there's a maximum number of phone numbers (which includes fax, cell, etc. for each contact) that the system will allow to be downloaded into the COMAND's telephone directory. I think it's 500. So, if I want to call someone, I just need to do it from the BB or through the voice activation system, assuming I can remember the number I want to call.

I bought the unit from Cartronic, a voice control module(used) off ebay, a lever to cue the vcm(from dealer), and installed myself in my 03 G500. While you have the head unit out its easy to add an aux in for mp3 or sat radio. You can download the manual for voice control somewhere off the web and control radio, cd, voice dialing, etc. I use it with a 3G iphone. The guy at Cartronics can walk you through installation if you are handy. Or you can replace the whole head unit with a double din unit and get nav and backup camera, too.
good luck
