09 SL550 Nav Screen Issue
Just got the car a few months ago with 1800 miles on it. Car was cherry except the left side of the nav screen was messed up - looked like someone tried to clean it and deteriorated the tint (or whatever is on the screen) I haven't done anything but it keeps getting worse. anyone know about this and if there's a fix?

I believe it is sealed because I got the dealer to do a bunch of things for me but they refused to replace it because of expense. Would love to hear if anyone else has a solution. One thought I had was to have the tint completely removed (if that's what it is) and then the screen would be clear and maybe could be re-tinted? Anyone know what the coating on the screen is?

His mama. Traded y0 mama in because she was squeaking.
It's not tint, it's an anti-glare coating. Two different things.
And yes, if you want it gone, you'll either have to replace the whole unit or find a bad unit with a good screen and a person capable enough to take the unit apart, replace the screen and put it all back together without having 30 pieces left over.
Edit: What do you mean, they refused to replace it because of the expense? If the car is still under warranty, then they can't use that excuse. The money isn't coming out of the dealer's pocket. I bet you the tech or service advisor didn't feel confident enough with their skills to teari it out and replace it.
Now, it could well be that the damage is obviously caused by neglect and the service advisor didn't feel confident enough that it would pass the returned parts inspection and didn't want to risk getting the work charged back to the dealership.

I feel your pain. I had the same problem on a Sl500 2006. The NAV screen was losing its tint, or someone cleaned it the wrong way. I was not sure. I shopped around and the cost to replace the NAV system was between 5000 and 8000 dollars depending on new or used. The dealer could not even replace the LCD, or apply new tint. I finally gave up, and becuase of other issues with the car such as NAV system base four colors, and the suspension, I traded my car for another before the warranty expired. I love the the car, but... Another option was to get another non MB NAV system. There are a few of them, but the other problem is finding someone that can install it correctly. On my model many of the car's systems ran via the NAV, and the connectors were fiber.
