Emergency Jacking Point Cover?

This is a last resort before I just go to the dealer and pay $108 for a simple little cover. I need the cover that goes in the side skirt that plugs up the jacking point for the emergency car jack. I have looked online, searched the forums, and either the sites no longer carry it, or I come up empty handed.

I have a 2003 white sl500 with amg styling (if that makes a difference). If anyone can generate a part number, or even better, a site I can order the part from, I will greatly appreciate it. I just have a hard time coughing up $108 for an un-painted cover. If it doesn't come with it I will also need the black wire that secures it (or is supposed to) to the vehicle to prevent it from falling off. With just my luck someone will probably steal it again. I need the rear driver (left side) plug.

Look on www,parts.com. I think the part is $60---a bargain at half the price.

Ouch, that sucks man. Yea, the little black thing is only a T-shaped piece of plastic that keeps it from falling off the car completely when unfastened. It won't keep someone from undoing it and completely ripping it out.

Reminds me of the little niggling problem with my car. Those straked fins on the black mesh grille on the hood? Yea, about a 1/2 inch tip of one of those got broken off somehow. I can't get just the fin -- I have to buy the whole black piece with the fins attached. And it has a rain sensor in there, so it goes for $280. So for right now, I'm just living with it. And it's causing an itch in my brain so I need to stop talking about it. Bleh.

Have you tried a junkyard or anything? You could rip one off of a wrecked car no problem.

You will have to buy pieces 2 and three or pieces 3 and 4 depending on front or back... Parts.com will ask for your vin number to verify that it is the correct part before order is complete. And don't worry i have ordered thousands in parts with them and never had an issue yet.

Good luck!

Does anyone have any tips on how to keep these from falling out? They become brittle and chip off the little “hooks” over time...

A sun sensor, that is. Arguably the least useful accessory on our cars.

I found it for 25 USD each, and they have different numbers, front and rear one. The front one is A 230 698 09 30 9197 and the rear one is A 230 698 11 30 9197. Left and right does not make any difference
Description on the web site says it's Obsidian black. I'm not sure, maybe it's because my car is black.

You can PM me your VIN and i'll check whether its good for AMG too.

P.S. btw the little plastic string that attaches the piece has separate part number and costs USD 15

For your part numbers i got couple quotes between USD 30 and 40. But I should check whether these prices are real.

Oh that’s better than anything I’m finding. Mind passing on some additional info? Thanks!

Anyone have any advice on sticking these back on if one or more of the tabs are broken? I'm trying to think of an adhesive that will nonetheless give way in case of emergency.
