Well Im not to sure about the alternator, altough i dont see how it will affect the vehicules in such a way while its running. Is not like the batery is running out of juice.

You'd be surprised what faulty electrical signals can display and mess with on these cars. My starter battery was going out which would cause a shifting problem and the occasional error light. How these two systems are related except for the ECU is beyond me but getting a new battery totally cleared the problem.

Have AutoZone do their free battery/alternator check and see which is the problem. Keep in mind though that even though they may say "oh, it looks ok" make sure to look at the voltages directly. Even an 11.7V draw current may throw off the sensitive electronics in these cars and could indicate a problem.

I also remember reading about the key switch being faulty, could this be the case?
