SL/R230: Rebooting COMAND
I only use MP3 cds to listen to music as I cannot stand the drivel on the radio. I've been using that method for the two-plus years I've owned my 2005 SL500. All of a sudden a few weeks ago my COMAND unit started acting strangely. After about 20-25 minutes of setting off on my drive to wherever I was going, the COMAND unit would just begin rebooting on its own. The music would stop and the screen would go black. It would come back on but then go off again. It did this 3-6 times in succession before going off completely. After a few minutes (sometimes as much as 5 minutes) of sitting in silence (still driving, hadn't stopped yet) the COMAND unit would come back on again but resume playing the music at the point when the car was started at the beginning of the drive.
Anyway, I took it into my MB dealership and they fixed the problem by updating the COMAND software with the latest update disc. It has been several days and the problem has not happened since. So if you're out there with this problem, go get your COMAND unit updated. (Some of you may never run into this problem because you listen to the radio/satellite/audio cds -- it doesn't seem to happen when listening to those.)
