Low tire pressure warning

I'm new here and haven't found any information on a fix for the low tire pressure warning. It comes and goes occasionally. The dealer says they can disable it for $100.00. Anyone have any ideas? I have a 2003 SL500.

The batteries in the wheel mounted TPMS transmitters have probably expired. The ones on my 2003 did about two years ago.

Unfortunately the batteries are not replaceable.

You can buy new TPMS transmitters from Tirerack for something like $75-$80 each. Used TPMS transmitters aren't worth buying because they only last 5 years +/-.

If you don't buy replacement transmitters your other options are to live with the warning message or turn off the TPMS receiver via Star Diagnostics.

$100 is a bit pricey given how simple the Star adjustment really is, but that's not unusual for a dealer. Some dealers won't even make the adjustment because TPMS is considered safety equipment.

Thanks for the information. $75 to $80 per wheel is still pricey. I will call the dealer for their pricing first. (Probably a lot more)
Thanks again,
Eric

eric03sl500,

You might want to try Discount Tire. They may be able to get the sensors and install them. The problem then would be programming the receiver to identify them.

Good luck and please let us know what you end up doing and the costs.

Thanks,
