Sl350 230 bild to facelift 2009

hello all,
I'm new here on the forum, I'm going to build an SL350 on, so it gets the new model front, so the model starting in 2008, think it will be in sl63 amg look, is there anyone who has tried it on this forum ,? I am from Denmark and here in the country has not built any yet, but I'm fresh to the task, we must say that I work at mercedes in Dk and have access to epc and can see the many differences, but it might be fun to see what others have done built?

So basically you want to convert the front end of a 2003-2008 to the 2009 + look?

I've never seen anyone do this in the U.S. I can't see why you would want to do that as the costs involved will never be recovered. In fact, I had an '07 SL550 and a '09 SL550 and I think the '07 was nicer looking as the '09 has the stupid higher front bumper to meet European pedestrian crash standards. The air scarfs in the '09 were a great benefit to the car.

I bet you buy a 2009 for a lot less money than the whole conversion will cost for parts and labor.

I don't know about Europe, but here in the U.S. cars with paint work are frowned upon and are worth substantially less than cars with factory paint. Dealers and buyers love electronic paint testers.

Maybe I'm missing something, but I don't see the conversion to be financially responsible. Maybe, tax reasons or something might be why someone would do it.

As far as I can tell the next generation SL will be out soon and the values of all these R230 cars will drop like rocks. Converting so late in the model run seems silly as all R230's (2003-2011) will look "old" soon.

By the way an SL350 sounds quite slow for such a heavy car. I had an SLK350 and it was a rocket, but I've test driven SL500's and they feel slow. Are SL550 and SL600's not common there?

hello and thank you for your prompt reply, the reason that the car will be built on is that it is something I must do for a customer that has such a car, and in denmark (dk) is 180% tax on vehicle value, and then the factor, more the client has an a special relationship to the car, then rebuild it to it It is not very fast but run really really well so he also has a cls63 amg so SL350 is only for summer trips with no top on.

Someone had this done in another country (UAE I believe). He put some nice build pics on the thread as his body shop guy was progressing through it.

I don't have time to check now but it is located somewhere on this board or the other one. Be sure to check both "pics of your R230" threads because it might have been inside one of those.

Here's the link to the other board and threads:

180 % tax is crazy and unfair. Wonder why I always see old cars in Europe on TV. I pay 6% in Connecticut and that seems like a lot on a big purchase. Leasing here is great as you don't even pay sales tax you only pay 6% on each payment made so it makes it so much nicer and easier to have a brand new car every 24-36 months. I'm glad I don't live overseas.
